In
Germany every thing was Spit and Polish. On the dog's vest you will
see the Regimental Crest of the 26th Regiment of the 1st infantry
Div. also known as the "Big Red One". The 26 Reg. was
known as the Blue Spaders-their Crest was plastered on everything
including the dogs when they were in a parade. This is the way it
was back then for a parade we wore chrome helmets with white chin
straps-blue scarves with picture of dog, white pistol belts and
holders and all kind of ropes and cords on shoulder-white gloves.
Last but not least white boot laces-after we were all dolled up
we had an inspection then we marched to the kennels to get the dogs.
Dogs would then step on neat spit shined boots. Then we marched
with dogs to the parade site and then in the parade the amazing
thing, in all the pictures, as we pass the reviewing stand and do
Eyes Right, the dogs all have their heads turned right. So this
is the way the Big Red One-The Blue Spaders-and the 42nd Scout Dog
Plt.-"Thy Scent Is Thy Doom" were in 1951-'52----
